Greetings from Japan!
I arrived here safely last week, and I’m in the beginning of a three week tour of this beautiful country.

While I was on the plane to Japan, the music blog Stereogum posted a video for “I Won’t Wait”, which features guest vocals from my friend Conor Oberst. The director Lyle Owerko shot a series of 5 of these videos on his iPhone, and I edited them all in iMovie. I’m proud to share the next in the series for a song called “Sad Blues.” Both of these videos star my friend Dulcinea Del Dolorosa as “The Girl” or “The Succubus”.

Check out this new song from Sub Rosa called “I Won’t Wait” featuring guest vocals from Conor Oberst. The video was shot entirely on an iPhone by the amazing Lyle Owerko!

Sub Rosa hits stores on July 31st.

Sub Rosa hits stores on July 31st on Dangerbird Records.

This Friday evening, June 22nd, I’ll be playing with my band at Nublu (62 Avenue C, New York City) to celebrate the venue’s tenth anniversary. We go on at 10pm. Tickets are available now at Ticketfly. It’s going to be a fun night. Kemp and Eden play before us at 9pm and then Groove Collective follow us. In between sets there will likely be a good dj spinning.

In June please check out the series I curated at John Zorn’s club The Stone (June 1-14, except Mondays). Some of today’s most talented performers will play a wide variety of fantastic music: contemporary classical, experimental, bossa nova, singer-songwriter, electronic, jazz. There will be power trios, duos, solos, etc!

I will perform twice with different groups: June 10 at 8pm, singing songs from my forthcoming album Sub Rosa, and June 12 at 8pm, playing a set of all-instrumental music. You can see the full calendar here.

My eleventh solo album Sub Rosa will be released on July 31st on Dangerbird Records.

Co-produced by me and Bill Dobrow, the new album will feature 14 tracks recorded and mixed between November 2011 and March 2012 during a series of extended trips down to Rio De Janeiro.

Enter your email address below for a free download of “Rocking Chairs”, a song I co-wrote with Brazilian music legend Dadi, that features Norah Jones on background vocals.

Stay tuned for album details and preorder information.

I’ve added two FREE shows this month at Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen Street) in New York City.

Monday, April 16 – New York, NY @ Rockwood Music Hall – 8:30pm
w/ Jeff Taylor, The Vanity Belles (21+)

Sunday, April 29 – New York, NY @ Rockwood Music Hall – 9:30pm

Join YPLC for a night with Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Jesse Harris. In 2002, Jesse collaborated with Norah Jones on her breakthrough diamond album “Come Away With Me,” winning a Grammy for song of the year for his composition of “Don’t Know Why.” He and his band will guide YPLC through the art of songwriting and give an intimate live performance. An alum of Lincoln Center’s popular American Songbook series, Jesse has performed on the stage of the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and plays in popular New York venues such as Rockwood Music Hall and the Surf Lodge in Montauk. Don’t miss this star-studded highlight of the 2012 series!
